Special Needs Dentistry

Special Needs Dentistry (SND) delivers dental services to persons with disability, aged 16 and above. It provides an oral health management for those with disabilities, from mild to severe, including the elderly/geriatric patients who are dependent on others for their activities of daily living (ADL).
SND services are dedicated for persons with physical, intellectual, psychology and psychiatric conditions, as well as medical complex conditions. It is a hospital-based dentistry.
The dental services provided includes consultation, dental treatment (scaling, restoration, endodontic, teeth extraction, denture constructions, treatment and preventative dentistry).
Dental management may be done with a behavioural guidance, treatments under oral/inhalation sedation and a general anaesthesia. In addition, clinical supports are also provided for the management of special needs patients during the community service such as domiciliary dental service (at home or institution) for bed-ridden patients.
